Un percorso immaginifico nella storia, tra stupefacenti cappelli a larga tesa, giacche utility di velluto – che sembrano rubate al guardaroba di un dandy del XXI secolo – e mantelli salvavita.

Through extraordinary costumes and an ad hoc set design, the exhibition investigates – in particular – the forms of fashion traceable in those who have become true male archetypes of style: the brigands.

The exhibition recounts the evolution of men’s clothing from peasant society and regional tradition to the bourgeoisie and the contemporary. The brigands are the main characters with their exploits—before and after post-unification Italyand—but they also acted on a fashionable scale, creating unmistakable and unique looks. It is a journey of styles whose popular codes change over time while keeping the origin alive.

In addition, the exhibition, made in collaboration with Netflix, also features images and clips from its upcoming Italian series Briganti (from 23 April), produced by Fabula Pictures.

With loans from the Museum of Civilisations’ collections and important fashion houses, documents from the Central State Archive, the Library of Modern and Contemporary History – Rome, the Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento and the Central Museum of the Italian Risorgimento in Rome, the National Museum of the Italian Risorgimento in Turin, the Historical Archive of the Museum of Criminal Anthropology “Cesare Lombroso” University of Turin, the Antonio Pasqualino International Puppet Museum in Palermo.
