MAXXI’s Collection of Art and Architecture represents the founding element of the museum and defines its identity. Since October 2015, it has been on display with different arrangements of works.

Curated by one of the world’s most famous and influential design studios, which is also featured, the exhibition the exhibition investigates movement as an internal property of architecture: buildings that change their configuration, have mobile elements and swell or turn to welcome visitors.
Like contemporary cyborgs or biomechanical subjects, architectures move and act to build better relationships with their inhabitants and the environment.
The ability to move or change like a transformer is a recurring feature of the work of the Diller Scofidio + Renfro studio, which has also often used movement as a platform to connect art and architecture.
