Once again, this year, MAXXI is participating in the Giornata del Contemporaneo, the major event promoted by AMACI to narrate the vitality of Italian contemporary art.
On the occasion of #GDC19, the Museum is offering free admission to Gallery 1 with FUORI TUTTO, the Collection’s new installation conceived as an “open deposit” showcasing the experimentation of the most current creative scene, including the most recent acquisitions, the great masters and the younger generations.
11.30 am and 5 pm.
free guided tours
You can book a free guided tour to explore the themes of the FUORI TUTTO exhibition.
5 pm – galleria 4
meeting with Enzo Cucchi
In conjunction with Enzo Cucchi’s exhibition closing. Il poeta e il mago, the 240 volumes of the artist’s private library, recreated for this occasion, will be donated to museum visitors. A dispersion event of the artist’s “readings” accompanied by an unpublished account of the history of his heterogeneous and rich library collection.
Together with the artist: Luigia Lonardelli, curator of the exhibition and Francesco Longo, Head of the MAXXI Library.
7 pm – MAXXI piazza
presentation of the work Temporali by Alberto Garutti
The day will also be an opportunity to present Alberto Garutti’s installation, conceived in 2009 for the MAXXI’s interior spaces before its opening and redesigned by the artist in a new form: a large illuminated inscription on the roof of the building that faithfully reproduces the artist’s handwriting.
These lights will vibrate when lightning strikes during thunderstorms in Italy.
This work is dedicated to those who pass by and think of the sky.
The Giornata del Contemporaneo involves museums, foundations, public and private institutions, galleries, studios and artists’ spaces all over Italy to tell the story of the vitality of contemporary art in our country. The guiding image for this edition is the work Pa(y)sage Corporel (2023) by the Italian-Senegalese artist Binta Diaw (Milan, 1995).
