The first retrospective in Italy dedicated to the artistic duo Maria Klonaris and Katerina Thomadaki, with a selection of works from the 1970s to the present day that restores the essence of their research.
The porosity of the boundaries between bodies, genders, arts, media; the reinterpretation of the cinematographic image as a space of relation; the moving image as a field of political resistance, a device for constructing a free and radical subjectivity.
Theorists, filmmakers and visual artists, Klonaris / Thomadaki combine different languages, from theater, to cinema and performance, creating the Cinéma Corporel, where in a filming of two, they break down the patriarchal relationship of the film tradition and return to being free, different and equal subjects, who watch and are watched at the same time.
The retrospective presents seventeen works divided into five different weeks of screenings that recount the most important phases of their research, from the first works to their most famous series such as Tétralogie corporelle (1976-79), Cycle de l’Unheimlich (1977-1982), the Série Portraits (1979 – ongoing) and Cycle de l’Ange (1985 – ongoing).
