talkThe journey: from discovery to storytelling in imagesHistory and present-day relevance of travel notes

A meeting to explore how the way and language of travel storytelling have evolved over time.

How did people approach the journey in ancient times? The preparation, the expectations and the unknowns. What means were used? Navigation and land travel led men to unknown places or, vice versa, to known and traced routes. We get to know otherwise unknown landscapes and communities through oral accounts and travel notes. Today, information reaches us in real-time: images and events happening several thousand kilometres away are transmitted to us almost instantaneously.
