A series of seminars devoted to the history of Italian photography from the Seventies to the present

On the occasion of the exhibition Extraordinary visions L’Italia ci guarda international lecturers, critics and researchers will be meeting the public to explore the fundamental episodes in the history of photography and to introduce the great masters who have borne testimony to and documented the history of Italy.

In the second seminar Roberta Valtorta, photography historian and director of the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea, investigates how the ties between contemporary man and the territories he inhabits have been widely explored by Italian photography during the course of the 1980s and beyond. This important cultural phenomenon has become known as the “Italian landscape school”. The work of many photographers who have worked on the transformation of the contemporary landscape (including Ghirri, Basilico, Jodice, Cresci, Guidi, Chiaramonte, Barbieri, Castella, Fossati, Radino, Ventura, Niedermayr, De Pietri and Ballo Charmet) has significantly influenced the development of present day photography, renewing it and placing it in communication with the international context.
