In order to encourage his daughter to marry and leave home, a widower pretends to be preparing to remarry. This is a story that, as in Tardo autunno, reaches the heart of filmmaking so composed yet so naked in its affections, which remains speechless in the face of the separation of generations of parents and children: the aim but also the end of the family. In a celebrated sequence, during the last night in which father and daughter sleep under the same roof, even the objects seem to gaze upon the protagonists with mute nostalgia.
